About
‘Connect inside to connect outside’ Kate
Music has been my lifelong passion. With over 20 years as a professional harpist performing across the UK and internationally, my career has taken me from touring with McFly and appearing on Strictly Come Dancing to performing for the late HM Queen, collaborating with leading professional orchestras and bringing music to more than 500 events.
But my relationship with music changed profoundly during the pandemic. As live performance came to a halt, I moved into a very different world, working with Hampshire Constabulary. Balancing the pressures of a demanding, fast-paced role with raising two children took its toll on my stress levels and mental wellbeing. After long shifts, I would return to my harp. Playing became my sanctuary - a way to quieten my mind, release the tension of the day and reconnect with myself.
It was through this experience that I began to appreciate music not simply as something to perform or listen to, but as something to experience deeply. I became fascinated by its capacity to influence our emotional state, support relaxation and bring us back into the present moment.
And so, Soulful Soundbaths was born.
Combining my classical music training at Trinity College of Music, London, with sound healing training at The Little Tibet, London, I created an experience that brings together the expressive qualities of the harp and the resonant tones of Tibetan singing bowls. My aim was to take classical music beyond the traditional concert hall and make it accessible in a different way: an immersive, lying-down experience where there is no audience to perform for, no expectation to applaud and nothing to do but listen.
There is a growing body of research exploring the relationship between music, the nervous system, stress and wellbeing. Studies into music-based interventions suggest that listening to music can support relaxation, influence mood and help reduce stress. Research into the harp’s therapeutic potential is also an emerging area of interest, with its gentle timbre, sustained resonance and flowing musical phrases offering particular qualities for calm and attentive listening. While music is not a cure-all, I believe there is something profoundly valuable in giving ourselves the time and space to experience it without distraction.S
Soulful Soundbaths has since grown into a series of immersive experiences, combining live harp, Tibetan bowls, gentle guidance and moments of stillness. I have loved collaborating with other practitioners and creative partners to bring these experiences into beautiful spaces, including Launceston Farm, Bury Court Barn and Chichester City Arts. I am passionate about working collaboratively on retreats and bespoke events, creating thoughtful experiences that bring music, wellbeing and a sense of connection together.
Whether you arrive feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or simply curious, my hope is that you leave feeling more connected to yourself and to the world around you.
Because sometimes, we don't need more noise, more information or another thing to do. We simply need the opportunity to stop, lie down and listen.
Soulful Soundbaths - connect inside to connect outside.
